Ankle injury makes Caicedo doubtful for Chelsea ahead of Club World Cup final

Ankle injury makes Caicedo doubtful for Chelsea ahead of Club World Cup final

Midfielder Moisés Caicedo suffered a left ankle injury during injury time of the second half as Chelsea defeated Fluminense 2-0 in the Club World Cup semifinals.

After receiving treatment, Caicedo attempted to return to the field but was eventually forced to leave — leaving Chelsea to finish the match with 10 players.

“Moisés twisted his ankle. I told him, since there were only two-three minutes left, we could play with 10 players. The important thing was not making the injury worse because we have a game on Sunday, but he felt he could try. However when he tried he felt pain. Hopefully he can be fit for Sunday. We’ll see,” said Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea will face either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s final.
