JAKARTA July 8, 2025 — Promising Indonesian tennis player Anjali Kirana Junarto secured runner-up honors in the girls’ singles final at the prestigious 2025 Pusaka International Junior Championship (ITF J60 Jakarta), after a hard-fought match against Azuna Ichioka of Japan on Sunday.

Competing at The Sultan Hotel & Residence Jakarta, the 17-year-old Junarto, seeded fifth, pushed the second seed Ichioka to three sets before falling 6-4, 1-6, 4-6 in an intense final.

“Sebelum final ini, saya sudah dua kali kalah dari dia — di J300 Nonthaburi dan J200 Kuala Lumpur. Tapi kali ini saya berhasil ambil satu set,” kata Anjali dalam pernyataan resmi di Jakarta.

Historic all-Indonesian semifinal

Anjali’s path to the final included a notable semifinal win over compatriot Abigail Elham, ensuring an all-Indonesian semifinal clash. Junarto defeated Elham in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, reflecting the growing strength of Indonesian juniors on the international stage.

The girls’ singles final drew attention not only for the result but also for the sportsmanship displayed, with Anjali and Azuna sharing a respectful moment post-match.

Indonesian success in doubles

Despite the singles loss, Indonesia still celebrated a title in the girls’ doubles. The pair of Abigail Elham and Yeseo Park (South Korea) claimed the championship by defeating fellow hosts Joanne Lynn Hartono / Gwen Emily Kurniawan with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory in the final.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ doubles, Indonesian duo M. Akmal Junaini / Michal Ihsan Wicaksana from Kentoeng Tennis Academy Sukoharjo finished as runners-up, falling to the top-seeded Taiwanese pair Lin Hao-Yu / Yen-Chun Wang 2-6, 3-6.

Taiwan’s Lin wins boys’ singles title

In the boys’ singles category, fifth seed Lin Hao-Yu of Taiwan was crowned champion after his compatriot and second seed Yen-Chun Wang was forced to retire due to injury while trailing 6-3, 3-1.

Rising profile of ITF J60 Jakarta

The ITF J60 Pusaka Indonesia is part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors, a global circuit for players aged 18 and under. This year’s edition attracted participants from 15 countries, including Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, India, Germany, the United States, Australia, and more.

With Indonesian juniors reaching multiple finals and securing a doubles title, the 2025 tournament reflects the nation’s improving presence in international junior tennis.
