Andrea Dovizioso Shares Insights on Rivalry with Marquez Brothers

Andrea Dovizioso, one of Marc Marquez’s fiercest rivals during the peak of his MotoGP career, shared revealing thoughts on both Marquez brothers in a recent interview with MotoSan.

The Italian rider, known for his consistent podium finishes and tactical approach on the track, competed head-to-head with Marc for three straight seasons — finishing runner-up from 2017 to 2019 while riding for Ducati.

“His charisma and power are undeniable, so I’m not surprised by the aggressive approach he takes,” said Dovizioso, referring to Marc Marquez, the eight-time world champion.

Alex Marquez earns praise for growth and maturity

Turning to Alex Marquez, Dovizioso expressed admiration for the younger Marquez’s evolution in MotoGP.

“I’m not surprised that Alex is so competitive. I’ve always considered him a very strong rider, he just lacked something. Now he has a bike that meets the standards and two years of experience — that makes the difference.”

Dovizioso highlighted how maturity and equipment have shaped Alex into a legitimate contender on the grid, especially after his move to Gresini Ducati.

Impact of Marc’s absence in the same garage

Dovizioso also underlined the psychological effects of racing in the shadow of a superstar sibling like Marc.

“Riders who say it doesn’t affect them are just telling themselves that because they need to believe it, but we’re all human. At Ducati, many now understand what I did with Márquez.”

The former Ducati rider pointed out that Marc’s absence has actually allowed Alex to shine more naturally, emphasizing how internal garage dynamics can affect a rider’s mindset.
