Amri/Nita eliminate world number 10 in Japan Open 2025 first round

Indonesian mixed doubles pair, Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah, secured a surprising victory over world number 10 from China — Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi — in the first round of Japan Open 2025 at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

The Indonesian representatives dominated with varied attacking play and solid defense — overwhelming their opponents from the start of the match.

“We prepared our attacking patterns since the warm-up,” stated Amri after the match. “Even though the shuttle was slow, we kept forcing to get attacking opportunities.”

The slow venue conditions did not hamper Amri/Nita’s performance — especially for Amri who served as the main attacker from the back court.
