Alpine F1 Team Appoints Steve Nielsen as New Managing Director

JAKARTA, July 4, 2025 — The Alpine Formula 1 team has officially appointed Steve Nielsen as their new Managing Director, marking a major leadership change at the team’s Enstone headquarters, according to a report by Motorsport.com.

Nielsen, a seasoned figure in Formula 1, will assume the role starting September, reporting directly to team advisor Flavio Briatore. The 61-year-old brings decades of experience, having previously held senior roles at both the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Formula One Management (FOM).

His return to the Enstone-based squad marks a full-circle moment — Nielsen previously served as Sporting Director for Renault, where he played a key role in the team’s back-to-back world championship victories with Fernando Alonso in 2005 and 2006.

In addition to Nielsen’s appointment, Alpine also confirmed two other key hires as part of their ongoing restructuring effort:

  • Kris Midgley returns from Ferrari to take on the role of Head of Aerodynamic Development.

  • Guy Martin, formerly Head of Sponsorship Europe at Visa, joins the team as Global Marketing Director.

These strategic moves come amid Alpine’s effort to revitalize its Formula 1 project and improve competitiveness heading into the 2026 regulation changes.
