Alonso Still Uncertain About Mbappé’s Condition Ahead of Madrid’s Crucial Match

Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso remains uncertain about Kylian Mbappé’s availability for the Club World Cup round of 16 match against Juventus — the star striker has missed all three group matches due to acute gastroenteritis.

“I don’t want to be optimistic and get ahead of myself, but we need him because he’s a top player, one of the best in the world. We hope he’s back soon,” Alonso stated.

Despite returning to training, Mbappé wasn’t even included on the bench when Madrid defeated RB Salzburg 3-0. The 26-year-old — who scored 43 goals in 56 appearances last season — continues to undergo specific medical treatment following his hospital discharge.

Mbappé’s absence has been a setback for this expanded tournament, given his status as one of the main attractions alongside Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland. His situation is further complicated by a moral harassment case filed against his former club Paris Saint-Germain — regarding their treatment following his decision not to extend his contract in 2023.
