Alexander-Arnold mourns amid Real Madrid’s victory over Dortmund

Real Madrid advanced to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 semifinals after defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-2 at MetLife Stadium — a match filled with drama until the final minutes.

Xabi Alonso’s side took the lead through Gonzalo Garcia’s goal in the 10th minute, followed by Fran Garcia’s strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s assist in the 20th minute. Kylian Mbappe added a goal in injury time, before Dortmund reduced the deficit through Maximilian Beier and Serhou Guirassy’s penalty.

Amid the victory celebrations that sent Madrid to face PSG in the semifinals, Alexander-Arnold expressed his difficulty playing while carrying a personal burden of grief.

“It’s difficult to play for the team when deep mourning surrounds me,” stated the English defender.
