Alex Marquez receives long lap penalty after incident with Joan Mir in Brno

According to MotoGP.com, Alex Marquez from BK8 Gresini Racing has been handed a long lap penalty for the Austrian MotoGP — a consequence of the incident with Joan Mir at Brno Circuit.

The crash occurred at Turn 14 just as the race entered its second lap — Mir who was running in sixth position fell together with Marquez into the gravel area after their bikes made contact.

Alex Marquez immediately acknowledged his mistake and apologized to Mir trackside, though the Honda HRC Castrol rider appeared visibly disappointed.

“When you make a mistake, you have to accept everything. I was just trying to calculate the step for the next lap, so I tried to do it halfway,” stated Marquez.

The long lap penalty will be served by Marquez during the Austrian MotoGP at Red Bull Ring Circuit, Spielberg.
