Alex Marquez finishes second behind brother at Italian MotoGP

Alex Marquez from Gresini Racing secured another runner-up finish behind his brother Marc Marquez for the 12th time after the Italian MotoGP at Mugello Circuit.

Riding the Ducati GP24, the Gresini rider is having his best season in the premier class — with six grand prix podiums including a victory at Jerez, plus nine sprint race podiums.

Alex Marquez briefly led the race after an intense battle between Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia in the early laps. However, his position lasted only three laps before being overtaken by his brother and ultimately finishing 1.9 seconds behind.

“Fighting for the championship against someone like Marc is never easy. He rides a factory bike, we must not forget that I’m in an independent team with last year’s bike,” stated Alex Marquez.

Despite trailing the championship leader by 40 points, the Spanish rider managed to extend his advantage over Bagnaia to 70 points in the battle for championship runner-up position.
