French singles player Alex Lanier continues his dominance at Japan Open 2025 after defeating Chi Yu Jen from Taiwan with a score of 21-16, 21-14 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

As the defending champion and eighth seed of this World Tour Super 750 tournament — Lanier demonstrated consistent performance from the start of the match.

The path to semifinals opened wider after Jonatan Christie — who was supposed to be his quarter-final opponent — was eliminated in the first round by Kenta Nishimoto with a score of 13-21, 12-21. Chi Yu Jen, ranked 33rd in the world, then defeated Nishimoto in the second round.

This victory further strengthens Lanier’s campaign to defend the title he won last year — when he defeated a series of top players including Lee Zii Jia, Chou Tien Chen, and Shi Yu Qi.
