Violent Crash for Alex Bowman in NASCAR Michigan Race

Violent Crash for Alex Bowman in NASCAR Michigan Race

Alex Bowman endured a violent crash during the NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway, when his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports car slammed into the wall at approximately 150 mph.

Incident triggered by four-wide battle on lap 68

The accident occurred during a restart on lap 68, as drivers jostled for position in a four-wide formation. Cole Custer lost control and made contact with Daniel Suárez, whose car then clipped Bowman, sending him hard into the barrier. The impact was so forceful that the rear tires of Bowman’s car lifted off the ground.

“That one was really big,” Bowman said over the radio, shortly before exiting the car under his own power.

Bowman reflects on severity of the crash

Following a check-up at the track’s medical center, Bowman shared how hard the hit felt:

“Yeah, that hurt a lot. That was probably top of the board on hits I’ve taken — and unfortunately, I’ve taken a lot of hits.”

The crash resulted in a 13-minute red flag, while safety crews cleaned the debris. Bowman and Custer were both forced to retire, while Suárez and Chase Briscoe managed to continue the race.

Another setback in Bowman’s challenging season

The crash continues a tough stretch for Bowman and the No. 48 team, who have now finished 27th or worse in seven of the last nine races, increasing pressure on the Hendrick Motorsports veteran as the playoffs approach.
