Alcaraz Beats Rublev, Extends Wimbledon Win Streak to 18

Alcaraz Beats Rublev, Extends Wimbledon Win Streak to 18

Carlos Alcaraz continued his title defense in style at Wimbledon 2025, rallying from a mid-match dip to defeat Andrey Rublev in four sets — 7‑6(6), 3‑6, 4‑6, 4‑6 — and secure his spot in the quarterfinals. The win marks his 18th consecutive victory at the All England Club.

The 21-year-old Spaniard, who lifted the Wimbledon trophy for the first time last year, was tested by Rublev’s aggressive play and flat groundstrokes. After claiming the opening set in a tense tiebreak, Alcaraz dropped the next two as Rublev seized control with confident shot-making and deep returns.

But as he’s proven time and again, Alcaraz raised his level when it mattered. In the fourth set, he showcased his trademark blend of speed, variety, and mental toughness — breaking Rublev at a crucial moment and never looking back.

“It was a really tough match,” Alcaraz said afterward.

“Andrey was playing at a very high level, but I stayed calm and focused on each point. I’m proud of how I fought back.”

The victory stretches his unbeaten Wimbledon run to 18 matches, a streak that dates back to the opening round of the 2023 tournament. He is now firmly on course to challenge for a second consecutive Wimbledon crown.

Up next for Alcaraz is British No. 1 Cameron Norrie, who will have the home crowd behind him in what promises to be a high-stakes quarterfinal clash. Norrie, a former semifinalist, is known for his grinding style and resilience, but Alcaraz enters as the favorite with momentum on his side.

With Novak Djokovic’s participation still uncertain and Jannik Sinner already out, Alcaraz is emerging as the frontrunner in the men’s draw. His adaptability on grass and ability to turn matches around under pressure continue to set him apart.

As Wimbledon enters its decisive week, all eyes will be on Alcaraz to see if he can keep his streak alive and march toward a second straight title on Centre Court.
