Aidil Sharin Sahak emerges as candidate for Singapore national team coach

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is considering Aidil Sharin Sahak as a candidate for the national team coach position — following Tsutomu Ogura’s sudden resignation after the June international break.

Ogura left on a positive note with a 2-1 victory over Bangladesh in his final match, which took Singapore to the top of Group C in the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers alongside Hong Kong.

FAS needs to move quickly to find a replacement as four matches remain in the qualification phase — where Ikhsan Fandi’s team must finish first to advance to the finals.

After three consecutive periods with Japanese coaches, FAS appears to be changing direction:

  • Tatsuma Yoshida (2019-2021)
  • Takayuki Nishigaya (2022-2024)
  • Tsutomu Ogura (2024-2025)
