Assistant coach Ameer Amri Zainuddin expressed his optimistic view of world number one men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani ahead of Japan Open 2025, according to TheStar.

The independent Malaysian pair — who will compete as defending champions at the tournament from July 15-20 — have shown signs of positive development despite only reaching quarter-finals in their last three tournaments.

“If you look at their last three matches in Malaysia, Indonesia and especially Singapore, they have shown more calmness and maturity,” stated Ameer.

“One positive thing I’ve noticed is that communication between Sze Fei and Izzuddin has also improved since they returned to training after these three tournaments,” he added.

Goh/Nur, who have held the world’s top ranking since late May, recorded consistent performances at:

  • Malaysia Masters 2025
  • Singapore Open 2025
  • Indonesia Open 2025
