Ahead of Euro 2025 Quarter-final, Sweden Captain: We Don’t Fear England

Ahead of the Euro 2025 quarter-final match, Kosovare Asllani — Sweden’s national team captain — has given a firm response to England player’s statement suggesting Sweden should be afraid.

“We respect England, their team and what they have achieved. But the word fear is not in our dictionary,” stated Asllani during the press conference.

Sweden’s coach Peter Gerhardsson noted that both teams have evolved since their last meeting in Euro 2022 semifinals — where England won decisively 4-0.

Regarding potential penalty shootouts, Asllani acknowledged her team’s preparation while hoping to settle the match in regular time. Sweden has bitter memories of losing on penalties against Canada in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics final.

The Letzigrund Stadium, which will host the match, has drawn criticism for its distant stands from the pitch. However, Gerhardsson remains optimistic after his team’s successful 4-1 victory against Germany at the same venue last week.
