After men’s team success, Malaysia ready to naturalize players for U-20 women’s team

Following the men’s national team’s success with naturalized players — Malaysia now plans to implement a similar strategy for their U-20 women’s team.

The inspiration came after Malaysia’s men’s team, reinforced with naturalized players, secured a decisive 4-0 victory over Vietnam in the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers. Peter Cklamovski‘s team was strengthened by five South American naturalized players:

  • Rodrigo Holgado
  • Jon Irazabal
  • Joao Figueiredo
  • Facundo Garces
  • Imanol Machuca

FAM Women’s Football Committee Chairperson Datuk Suraya Yaacob confirmed — three foreign players have been prepared to join the Malayan Tigress for the 2026 U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers. The Group F qualification tournament will be held in Kuala Lumpur with Japan, Iran, and Guam as competitors.
