After 8-0 win over Brunei, Indonesia U-23 coach still not satisfied

Indonesia U-23 national team coach Gerald Vanenburg expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance — despite securing a convincing 8-0 victory over Brunei Darussalam in their Group A ASEAN Cup U-23 2025 opener at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta.

The Young Garuda squad dominated the match with goals from:

  • Jens Raven (minutes 2, 9, 31, 33, 41-penalty, 62)
  • Arkhan Fikri (minute 20)
  • Rayhan Hannan (minute 35)

“I want to thank you, the first half was very good. But the second half wasn’t as good,” Vanenburg stated after the match.

“But I think Brunei Darussalam actually played better, I was happy with the first half, while in the second half our level should have increased,” he added.
