AFA Lifts Away Supporters Ban After 12 Years

According to AFA, Argentine football enters a new era with the lifting of the away supporters ban that has been in effect for 12 years — a policy initially implemented in 2013 following violent incidents that resulted in a spectator’s death.

AFA President Claudio Tapia called this a historic moment. > “This is a historic day because it marks the beginning of the return of visiting fans, enabling clubs that wish to host them to do so,” he stated during a press conference.

This decision coincides with World Cup winner Ángel Di María’s return to the domestic league. Test matches are scheduled for this weekend — including Di María’s presentation with Rosario Central at Lanus stadium and River Plate’s visit to Instituto de Cordoba.

Rosario Central President Gonzalo Belloso urged his club’s supporters to maintain proper behavior, while Buenos Aires Security Minister Javier Alonso emphasized — host clubs must obtain authority approval and visiting teams are responsible for their supporters’ conduct.
