Aaron Chia Proposes VAR and Medical Rule Changes to BWF

According to The Star, Malaysian doubles badminton player Aaron Chia has submitted several important proposals to the World Badminton Federation (BWF) — including VAR technology implementation and changes to medical rules during matches.

These suggestions follow BWF’s plans to increase tournament prizes and extend competition duration.

“This is a good step to increase prize money and provide more rest time for players between matches,” said Aaron Chia.

“BWF should consider using VAR like in football — to check shuttlecocks touching players before going out, and to assist service judges in making fault decisions.”

The 28-year-old athlete also highlighted the importance of changing medical rules that currently only allow players to receive treatment during match breaks — a policy implemented since last November.
