Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson appears to be back on Bayern Munich’s radar, as the German giants are reportedly looking to make him their final signing of the summer transfer window.

This comes after a reported setback just days ago, on 30 August, when Senior Bundesliga journalist Florian Plettenberg unveiled a potential deal had collapsed due to disagreements, particularly over the transfer terms. However, he has now confirmed that Bayern have not given up and have re-established contact with Jackson’s agent Diomansy Kamara to bring him to Bavaria.

This renewed plan has been corroborated by fellow reporter Fabrizio Romano, who indicates that talks between the clubs remain open. However, it is believed Chelsea are only interested in a permanent sale instead of a season-long loan.

According to details from the negotiations, Bayern will have to splash €15 million loan fee with an option or obligation to buy for up to €80 million. Given Bayern’s stern transfer policy, meeting Chelsea’s asking price could be a sticking point, especially as Jackson lacks the proven track record of other major Bayern signings like Luis Díaz or Harry Kane.

Bayern on the hunt

In a parallel pursuit, Bayern are also reportedly pushing a move for Atalanta’s star Ademola Lookman. The Bundesliga champions have monitored the 27-year-old since last season and are hoping to capitalize on the player’s situation to facilitate a quick move.

In contrast to Jackson, Lookman’s profile is arguably more attractive to Die Roten. His flexibility to play as both a central striker and a winger, combined with his four years of experience at RB Leipzig, means he would have no problem playing in Bundesliga once again.

This move seems increasingly plausible as Lookman and his representatives are reportedly open to a return to Germany. However, Atalanta will undoubtedly demand a significant fee for their key player, who is currently valued at around €55 million.

Crisis up front

Meanwhile, Chelsea may be hesitant to sanction Jackson’s departure given their current lack of depth up front. The team’s situation worsened when young striker Liam Delap suffered an injury against Fulham on 30 August. The latest medical reports indicate Delap will be sidelined for at least two months.

With no other proven natural number nine as a direct replacement, loaning out Jackson would be a significant risk. Alternative solutions, such as recalling Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland or repositioning a player like João Pedro or new signing Alejandro Garnacho, are within the possibility. However, these options could disrupt the tactical stability manager Enzo Maresca has built since the pre-season.
