Brest vs Lille: Ligue 1 Prediction (17.08.2025)

Lille player in red battles for the ball against a Brest defender during a Ligue 1 match.

On Sunday, August 17, at 20:00 (WIB) at the Stade Francis-Le Blé in Brest, the local football club will host Lille Olympique in the opening round of the 2025–2026 Ligue 1 season. Last season, the hosts finished 9th, while the visitors took 5th place, which secured them a spot in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League.

In the Brest – Lille matchup, bookmakers lean slightly toward the visiting team. Odds: Brest win – 3.42, draw – 3.55, Lille win – 2.16. Analysts expect an average-scoring game: over 2.5 goals is priced at 1.91, while both teams to score is offered at 1.74.

Brest

Coach Éric Roy’s team created a stir at the start of last season, delivering some surprising results in the UEFA Champions League group stage. However, they were knocked out in the playoffs by PSG. Juggling two competitions proved too much, and the Pirates eventually slipped to mid-table in Ligue 1. With no European commitments this time, they can focus on the domestic league. But with no significant squad changes, fans are unlikely to see them fight for a return to European qualification.

Lille

To be frank, fifth place was not considered a successful result for Lille. The club’s management is demanding a push for the medals. Competing with PSG for the title may be unrealistic, but a fight for second place is possible. However, the summer brought setbacks: despite little incoming reinforcement, Lille sold several key players. Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier moved to PSG to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma, while central defender Bafodé Diakité transferred to Bournemouth to replace Ukraine’s Illia Zabarnyi. These departures made Lille a victim of reshuffling among Europe’s top clubs.

Head-to-Head Statistics

Since 2022, the teams have met seven times, with Lille leading the series 3–2 in wins. Last season, the Dogs won 3–1 at home, while the Pirates struck back with a 2–0 victory in Brest.

Prediction

The hosts had a solid run of friendly matches. The “Pirates” usually perform well at the start of the season. At home, the team should show ambition and please their fans. We’ll bet on Brest not to lose at 1.74.
