The highly anticipated RRQ Hoshi roster for MPL Indonesia Season 16 has finally been unveiled, featuring several changes that come as little surprise, especially to their dedicated fans.

Expectations for new signings arose following the transfer of the veteran gold laner, David “Skylar” Schevenko, to rival team Onic ID just days ago. However, RRQ appears committed to developing young talent by promoting junior players from their academy system instead.

For this season, they have promoted Muhammad “Rezzz” Reza (exp lane) and Ilyas “Zunesh” Prasetyo (roam) from their RRQ Sena squad. And contrary to earlier rumors, no imports have been added to the roster.

This move echoes RRQ’s strategy from two seasons ago when they successively promoted Hajirin “Rinz” Arafat, Said “Idok” Ridho, and Muhammad “Toyy” Rizky from their academy. Given those players’ solid statistics, there’s potential for this season’s promoted talents to replicate their seniors’ success.

Yet to fully win over fans

Despite the promise shown by their new generation of players, RRQ has yet to fully convince their loyal fanbase, the RRQ Kingdom, who have been longing for the team to reclaim the MPL ID trophy for some time.

As many know, RRQ last won the prestigious MLBB championship title in MPL ID Season 9 back in 2022. Their performance has fluctuated in subsequent seasons, culminating in significant disappointment with unexpected playoff losses to underdog teams.

Furthermore, they have missed out on coveted international competitions, a major goal for Indonesian teams. Their situation showed gradual improvement after signing head coach Alfi “Khezcute” Syahrin from Bigetron in July 2024.

Nevertheless, the team’s inconsistency remains. While Khezcute is widely known for employing flexible and aggressive strategy, they choked in back-to-back season finals: against Team Liquid ID in MPL ID S14 and then against Onic ID in MPL ID S15. Addressing mental fortitude will undoubtedly be crucial if they aim to win the title this season.
