Sabah Hunts for Home Goals

Under manager Valdas Dambrauskas, Sabah adopted a defensive approach in Sofia, successfully stifling Levski’s attacks for most of the match to keep their second-leg hopes alive. Their resistance was finally broken deep into stoppage time (98th minute), forcing goalkeeper Stas Pokatilov to retrieve the ball from his net.

Now, playing at home, Sabah must find their attacking edge to overturn the deficit. Their experienced strike duo, Slovak Pavol Šafranko and German Joy-Lens Mickels, have proven their scoring ability against teams like Celje and Petrocub. However, they face a tougher challenge breaking down a Levski defense that is more solid in every aspect.

Levski Sofia in Positive Momentum

Levski’s domestic form has been really good under head coach Julio Velázquez, winning their first four Bulgarian Parva Liga matches (scoring 11 goals, conceding only 2). They also performed solidly against Portuguese side Braga in previous European qualifiers, despite ultimately losing in extra time.

Although Levski employed an attacking strategy against Sabah in the first leg, they struggled to convert their dominance into goals until the dying moments. The crucial goal finally came in the 87th minute from young substitute striker Borislav Rupanov. He is currently in peak form himself, having scored in his last three consecutive Bulgarian league games.

Head-to-Head & Statistics

Levski clearly dominated the statistics in the first leg against Sabah:

  • Possession: 65% vs 35%
  • Shots: 14 vs 7
  • Shots on Target: 3 vs 1
  • Corners: 7 vs 1

Prediction

Reflecting the tight first-leg result, a high-scoring second match isn’t highly anticipated: odds for over 2.5 goals are 2.20, while the “Both Teams to Score” option is offered at 1.90.

Sabah’s need for a goal to advance will undoubtedly change the dynamics of this second leg, leading to a more open and attacking game.

Recommended bet: The “Both Teams to Score” option at odds of 1.90 looks quite solid.
