The Valorant Mobile project, developed by Riot-Tencent, is currently undergoing testing specifically for the China region and appears set to become a major company focus in the coming years.

As previously announced, Valorant Mobile launched in closed beta and partnered with several major Chinese mobile device brands to promote and support the upcoming esports circuit activation in the country.

The official launch in China is scheduled for August 19th, followed shortly by the global version. Developers initially stated they didn’t want to rush Valorant Mobile’s release, prioritizing player feedback over high expectations.

However, recent statistics show community excitement has exceeded predictions. The latest report says beta registrations surpassed 60 million users, with some portion likely coming from players outside China eager for early access.

Given the positive testing phase, Valorant Mobile is now projected to potentially surpass the popularity of the PC version, which already boasts a strong community and structured esports ecosystem.

Huge esports commitment to the China region

Based on a recent presentation in China, the official Valorant Mobile competitive circuit will feature a league system and offer a fantastic prize pool of approximately $1.3 million USD. This notably exceeds the highest prize pool standard for PC Valorant tournaments, specifically the VCT Champions.

But wait, there’s more! This large-scale commitment to the Valorant Mobile esports ecosystem is also planned globally, with details to be announced shortly after the inaugural Chinese competition concludes. This will undoubtedly attract major organizations already established in the VCT scene.

However, public responses to this roadmap have not been entirely positive. The plan has drawn criticism from some Valorant esports analysts, hoping that the Valorant Mobile esports project will prove sustainable and avoid the disappointments experienced with League of Legends: Wild Rift—another PC-to-mobile adaptation by the same developers.

More complex features come to the mobile version

As you may have seen sin the previous month, Valorant Mobile includes several long-requested features from the PC community. Developers assure rigorous testing of all new additions to guarantee a better competitive experience.

A standout feature for the mobile version is the Replay System, a top wanted from the global Valorant community in recent years. Riot and Tencent’s commitment to such crucial features for mobile suggests confidence in attracting former PC players to the new platform.

Major investment in system development

Beyond esports, Riot and Tencent have invested hundreds of millions of dollars into crucial stuff like:

  • Anti-cheat systems
  • Server quality
  • More responsive long-term gameplay controls

Total development costs for Valorant Mobile’s esports and systems are projected to exceed $200 million over the next three years. Riot and Tencent aim to rapidly adapt this new ecosystem to rival the scale of the PC version.
