Deal Done: Benjamin Sesko to Undergo Manchester United Medical After £74M Agreement with Leipzig

Manchester United have officially secured a deal to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, with the striker set to undergo a medical after both clubs agreed on a £74 million transfer. The move marks one of United’s biggest signings of the summer and ends speculation surrounding the 22-year-old’s future.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Benjamin Sesko and his agent, Elvis Bašanović, were en route to Manchester on Thursday evening (UK time) to complete his medical and sign the contract. The official unveiling is expected on Saturday, pending final formalities.

“The first pic of Sesko since becoming a new Manchester United player — the club he wanted,” Romano posted on X (formerly Twitter), alongside a photo of Sesko on a flight to Manchester with his agent.

“He’s landing tonight, medical and signature Friday, unveiling Saturday.”

Benjamin Sesko becomes third forward signed by United this summer

Sesko becomes Manchester United’s third attacking signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. The Red Devils’ total attacking spend now exceeds £200 million — a clear signal of their intent to reshape the front line under manager Erik ten Hag.

Sesko had previously been on the radar of Newcastle United, but United moved quickly to win the race, helped by the player’s personal desire to join the Old Trafford club.

The 22-year-old Slovenian striker enjoyed an impressive spell with RB Leipzig, scoring 39 goals in 87 appearances across all competitions.

Incoming striker, outgoing stars

With Sesko’s arrival imminent, Rasmus Højlund is now expected to leave Manchester United. Despite being signed as a marquee forward last summer, the Dane has scored just 14 Premier League goals over two seasons, and is now listed for sale at around £30 million.

In addition, reports from The Guardian suggest that Alejandro Garnacho could also be on the move. The Argentine winger has been told he can leave if a suitable offer comes in. United are believed to be open to selling him for £50 million, with Chelsea among the clubs showing interest.

What Benjamin Sesko’s signing means for Manchester United

Sesko is seen as a key long-term addition to United’s attacking rebuild. At just 22 years old, he brings a combination of pace, aerial dominance, and goal-scoring instinct — traits that have been missing from United’s frontline in recent seasons.

The £74 million deal not only secures one of Europe’s most sought-after young forwards but also signals Manchester United’s ambition to reassert themselves in both the Premier League and European competitions in the 2025/26 campaign.

With the medical and contract signing scheduled for Friday, and the official announcement expected on Saturday, Benjamin Sesko will soon be unveiled as a Manchester United player — in what could be one of the most significant moves of the summer.
