The Indonesia U20 women’s national team earned a valuable point in their AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers campaign after playing out a goalless draw against India in their opening Group D fixture.

The match, held on Wednesday (7/8), showcased a resilient and organized performance from the Garuda Pertiwi squad, who were tested throughout the 90 minutes by a physically dominant Indian side. Despite India having more possession and attacking phases, the Indonesia U20 Women remained composed and disciplined at the back.

According to the Asian Football Confederation, both teams shared equal possession stats, but Indonesia led in clearances and successful defensive duels — a reflection of their strong organization and commitment.

“We came into this match knowing how strong India can be, but the girls stayed compact, followed instructions, and played with heart,” Mochizuki said post-match via the team’s official channel.

“This draw is a good foundation, and now we focus on improving our attacking game.”

With one point secured, Indonesia now turns attention to their next Group D fixture against Bangladesh on Saturday (10/8) — a match that could define their qualification hopes.

To advance from the group, Mochizuki’s side will likely need at least one win from their remaining matches. The coaching staff has emphasized the importance of improving in the final third while maintaining the same defensive focus.

“We’re building step by step,” added Mochizuki.

“A result like this gives us belief. Now we have to turn that into three points in the next game.”
