Arsenal introduces Viktor Gyokeres in Singapore friendly match

Arsenal played their second friendly match at Singapore National Stadium — this time facing fellow Premier League club Newcastle United.

The match marked a special moment for Viktor Gyokeres who wore The Gunners’ jersey for the first time since his transfer from Sporting CP. The Swedish striker greeted Arsenal supporters in the stands with a wave.

Gyokeres‘ transfer to Emirates Stadium required lengthy negotiations — Arsenal had to spend 64 million pounds to secure the services of the player who scored 54 goals in 52 appearances for Sporting CP last season.

In this match, manager Mikel Arteta chose to field mostly regular players as starters. Instead, Newcastle United’s new striker Anthony Elanga stole the spotlight by scoring the opening goal.

Previously, Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over AC Milan at the same venue earlier this week.
