Wang Zhi Yi defeats Yamaguchi to reach China Open 2025 finals

Chinese women’s singles player Wang Zhi Yi has advanced to the China Open 2025 finals after defeating Akane Yamaguchi in straight games at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium.

This victory levels the head-to-head record between both players at 6-6 — while also avenging Wang’s defeat in the Japan Open 2025 semifinals. The home player will await the winner between An Se-young and Han Yue in the final match.

In the first game, the match started with a 2-2 tie. Yamaguchi took a 6-2 lead through an unreturnable dropshot. A series of errors from Wang allowed Yamaguchi to extend her lead to 7-2, although Wang managed to reduce the gap with a smash. Yamaguchi eventually led 11-4 at the interval.
