Lauren James doubtful for Euro 2025 final against Spain

According to England’s head coach, Lauren James‘ status for the Euro 2025 final against Spain remains uncertain. The Lionesses’ key winger suffered an ankle injury during the semifinal match against Italy.

Sarina Wiegman provided the latest update after James was seen doing light training on Friday. “She’s still in recovery and doing some activities on the pitch — we’ll give her time until the final match,” Wiegman stated.

If James cannot play in Sunday’s final, two candidates are ready to take her position:

• Beth Mead who came on as a substitute in the semifinal
• Chloe Kelly who also has experience playing on the right wing

James has been impressive throughout the tournament, scoring twice when England defeated Netherlands 4-0 in the group stage.
