Verstappen Breaks Silence on His Red Bull Future After Horner’s Departure

Max Verstappen has emphasized that Christian Horner’s departure from Red Bull’s leadership position — will not influence his future with the Formula 1 team.

After 20 years of building Red Bull into a top-tier team with eight drivers’ titles and six constructors’ championships — Horner was removed from his position as team principal and CEO days after the British Grand Prix.

Laurent Mekies, appointed as Horner’s replacement, has received a positive reception from Verstappen. “He’s a very pleasant and clever person. His experience in various F1 areas can be very helpful — he’s also incredibly motivated and I like that fire,” the Dutch driver stated.

“I’m very happy where I’m at. The hope and target when we signed the new deal was — that I would race here until the end of my career,” said Verstappen.

Despite having clauses that could allow him to leave before his contract ends in 2028 — Verstappen emphasized that his relationship with Horner remains good. “He’s still like a second family to me, even though he’s not present at the circuit during races,” he added.
