Albon: Smart Drivers Will Master F1’s 2026 Energy System

Alex Albon, Williams Formula 1 driver, shares intriguing perspective about the energy management system to be used in 2026 F1 cars — smart drivers will be able to understand and exploit the system to gain advantage.

Williams currently holds fifth position in the constructors’ standings, with Albon collecting 46 points for the Grove team. His teammate, Carlos Sainz, is still adapting after his move from Ferrari and has experienced several DNFs.

After spending time in the 2026 car simulator, Albon shared his experience ahead of the Belgian GP. New regulations will introduce a 50/50 power split between internal combustion engine and electrical power, with Manual Override Mode replacing the DRS system.

“In the end, I just want good racing. I’m not sure the speeds of the cars or the way that they’re driven is going to change too much,” said Albon.

“A driver who’s smart and can understand the system will find more performance. More than now, for sure,” he added.
