Vietnam U-23 reaches ASEAN Cup semifinals despite criticism

The Vietnam U-23 national team — coached by Kim Sang-sik — has secured their semifinal ticket in the 2025 ASEAN Cup U-23 after dominating Group B.

The Red Squad collected perfect points with six from two matches — defeating Laos 3-0 and overcoming Cambodia 2-1.

Despite qualifying for semifinals, Vietnamese football pundit Quang Huy criticized the players’ mental aspect which was deemed subpar — evident from the few goals scored against weaker teams.

“Whatever formation you play, the most important thing is controlling mentality,” stated Quang Huy.
