Disappointing Debut! China’s Men’s Doubles Early Exit at 2025 China Open

China’s men’s doubles pair Ren Xiang Yu and Sun Wen Jun endured a bitter debut at the 2025 China Open, suffering a first-round exit at the hands of Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Changzhou.

Despite strong support from the home crowd, the newly-formed Chinese duo struggled to find rhythm and cohesion on court. The pairing of experienced Ren and 22-year-old Sun Wen Jun lacked the necessary chemistry to challenge the more established Malaysian pair.

Throughout the match, the Chinese side played mostly defensively, relying heavily on flat drives and rarely finding opportunities to go on the offensive. Sun became the primary target of attack — often caught off guard by the opponents’ tactics and committing several unforced errors during critical moments.

This early loss raises concerns for China’s men’s doubles division, which is currently experimenting with new combinations to regain dominance on the BWF Super 1000 stage. On the other side, Ong and Teo showcased their experience and composure, advancing confidently to the next round.
