Venus Williams Wins in Doubles Comeback in Washington

Venus Williams marked her return to competitive tennis with a doubles victory at the 2025 Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington, D.C., on Monday night.

Partnering with fellow American Taylor Townsend, the 45-year-old tennis icon defeated Harriet Dart and Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-4, 7-6(3) in straight sets. The win was Williams’ first match since the 2023 US Open and her first appearance at the Washington tournament in four years.

Cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd, Williams showcased her trademark volleys and court awareness, defying her long absence from the tour.

“It felt great to be back,” she said post-match.

“I just wanted to enjoy the game and compete again.”

The duo advances to the second round, where they’ll face stiffer competition as Williams continues her inspiring comeback.
