Retegui Breaks Italian Transfer Record with Move to Al Qadsiah

Mateo Retegui has officially joined Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah from Atalanta — both clubs announced the deal this Monday.

The 26-year-old striker has signed a four-year contract with a transfer fee reaching €65 million — making him the most expensive Italian player of all time.

During his single season with Atalanta, Retegui impressed by scoring 25 league goals and helping his club finish third. The Nerazzurri club expressed their gratitude for his extraordinary contribution last season.

“The Percassi family, the Pagliuca family and the entire Nerazzurri club sincerely thank Mateo for the extraordinary contribution he made last season and wish him the best for the continuation of his sporting career and for his future,” the club stated.

The Argentina-born striker represents Italy through his grandparents’ heritage — has scored six goals in 20 appearances since his debut in 2023. At Al Qadsiah, Retegui will replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who recently left the club after scoring 21 goals in 36 matches last season.
