FIFA Rejects European Clubs’ Proposal for Biennial Club World Cup

According to ESPN reports, several major European and South American clubs — including Real Madrid — have proposed holding the Club World Cup every two years to increase their revenue.

FIFA has distributed $1 billion to participating teams in the latest tournament — a figure deemed impossible to generate biennially. Real Madrid received $82.5 million after reaching the semifinals, while champions Chelsea took home $114.6 million.

“One Real Madrid match is worth €20 million, and FIFA wants to give us that amount for the entire competition. Negative. Like us, other clubs will refuse the invitation,” stated former Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti.

FIFA plans to hold the next tournament in 2029, with Qatar — which already has adequate infrastructure — being one of the host candidates. However, weather conditions necessitate holding the tournament in December.
