Alan Permane appointed as new Racing Bulls F1 boss

According to Motorsport.com, Alan Permane has been officially appointed as Racing Bulls Formula 1 team principal — replacing Laurent Mekies who now leads Red Bull Racing.

Permane — who has been involved in F1 for over three decades — will oversee team operations across two locations: Milton Keynes, UK and Faenza, Italy.

“I had many reactions to the news, some shock, some pride,” Permane stated. “It’s amazing that they feel I’m capable and have the potential to lead this team.”

The 58-year-old F1 veteran joined Racing Bulls in early 2024 as racing director after previously spending his career with various teams including:

  • Benetton
  • Renault
  • Lotus
  • Alpine

In his new role, Permane will focus on maintaining the team’s momentum as they compete in the championship’s midfield. Mattia Spini — the team’s chief race engineer — will temporarily take on some racing director duties.

“The target is to be top of the midfield, and we are certainly in a battle for that throughout this year,” added Permane explaining his team’s ambitions.
