Alex Marquez Receives Long Lap Penalty in Austria

According to MotoGP.com, Alex Marquez has been handed a long lap penalty for the upcoming MotoGP Austria race following a collision with Joan Mir at the Brno Circuit.

The crash occurred on the second lap when Marquez attempted an inside overtake at Turn 14, resulting in both riders crashing out and sliding into the gravel.

Alex Marquez admitted his mistake: “When you make a mistake, you have to accept it. I braked too late and lost the front. I apologize to him and his team.”

Joan Mir also commented on the incident: “I knew Alex was behind me. On that lap, maybe four or five times, someone bumped me from behind. Then in that chicane, I felt a bike hitting me.”

This incident adds to Mir’s difficult season, where he has already recorded eight DNFs in main races and four in Sprint races. The Honda HRC Castrol rider emphasized that his biggest challenge remains the lack of bike performance.
