Dean James optimistic about Indonesia’s chances for 2026 World Cup

Go Ahead Eagles player Dean James has responded positively to the 2026 World Cup qualification draw that pits Indonesia against Saudi Arabia.

The Indonesian national team has an impressive record — securing one victory and a draw against Saudi Arabia in the third round.

“I think the draw is good. Of course, I’ve never played against them. My team has played against Saudi Arabia before, but some of our current players have faced them,” James told ESPN NL.

“I’ve seen the results, one draw and one win. So yes, maybe I have an advantage, and I hope we can qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” he added.

The naturalized player emphasized — the desire to qualify for the 2026 World Cup remains the main target for all members of the Indonesian national team.
