Kim/Seo defeat Goh/Izzuddin to claim Japan Open 2025 title

According to BWF.com, South Korean men’s doubles pair Kim Won-ho/Seo Seung-jae defeated defending champions Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani from Malaysia in the Japan Open 2025 final at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

This straight games victory — which will elevate Kim/Seo to world number one in BWF rankings on July 22 — ends Goh/Izzuddin’s 8-week reign at the top.

On their path to the final, the Malaysian pair had overcome Indonesian representatives Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the quarter-finals of this Super 750 tournament.

Kim/Seo dominated from the start — their combination of fast play and solid defense led to a 5-2 lead. Although Goh/Izzuddin managed to reduce the gap to 4-8, the Korean pair who reunited in early 2025 remained unstoppable and closed the interval with an 11-6 advantage.
