Nakagami withdraws from Czech GP due to severe knee injury

Takaaki Nakagami has been forced to withdraw from the remainder of the Czech GP after sustaining a serious injury to his right knee. The incident occurred during a collision with Augusto Fernandez on the second lap of the sprint race.

Medical examination revealed that the Japanese rider suffered a posterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee. The LCR team confirmed this condition renders him unable to participate in the main race.

“During the very beginning of the sprint race at Turn 3, Augusto hit me at the apex and I had a big impact. After half an hour I felt a strange feeling in my right knee and medical examination found the ligament injury,” explained Nakagami.

The 33-year-old rider will return to Japan immediately for an MRI scan and further evaluation from medical team to determine the next steps in treatment.
