Barcelona fails to secure Nico Williams after Bilbao contract extension

Barcelona’s plans to sign Nico Williams in this summer’s transfer window have fallen through — the 23-year-old winger has opted to extend his contract with Athletic Bilbao until 2035.

Previously, both parties reportedly reached a personal agreement — Williams was willing to sign a six-year contract with a salary of 7-8 million euros per season with the Catalan club.

Financial constraints became the main factor in this transfer’s failure — Barcelona could not guarantee Williams’ registration to the squad due to La Liga’s financial regulations.

According to Sport’s report, before the deal collapsed — a Barcelona executive had communicated with Williams through WhatsApp.
