Ruben Amorim comments on Matheus Cunha’s Manchester United debut

According to the club’s official website, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim provided his assessment following Matheus Cunha’s debut in a friendly match that ended in a 0-0 draw against Leeds United at Strawberry Arena, Stockholm.

Cunha, who started and played for 45 minutes — has yet to establish chemistry with Bruno Fernandes in the Red Devils’ attacking line.

“Of course, you can see the connection between him and Bruno isn’t there yet. However, their connection will improve because you can position players like Kobbie Mainoo or Mason Mount. So, we need to enhance our quality in the final third,” said Amorim.

The Brazilian striker, purchased for 62.5 million pounds from Wolverhampton Wanderers — becomes United’s most expensive signing under Amorim’s management.

In the same match, young defender Diego Leon also made his debut. The 18-year-old, acquired from Cerro Porteno for 7 million pounds — received praise from the manager.

“We must understand that this kid comes from Paraguay and it’s his first week. He played very well, learning new things, and showed great energy. He will become a very good player,” added Amorim.
