WNBA Players Protest Salary Issues at All-Star Game

WNBA players demonstrated their protest by wearing t-shirts reading “Pay Us What You Owe Us” during the All-Star Game warmup in Indianapolis. This action highlights the crucial issue in the ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations.

Breanna Stewart, WNBPA vice president, emphasized — the main issue centers on revenue sharing and salary. “Their latest proposal doesn’t even bring us to a point where we can discuss the same thing,” she stated.

“We were very disappointed. What they came back with was nowhere near what we asked for or even in the same conversation,” expressed Napheesa Collier, WNBPA vice president.

Over 40 players attended the first meeting in seven months — an unprecedented number for CBA negotiations. While League Commissioner Cathy Englebert appreciated the players’ enthusiasm, A’ja Wilson stressed that this mass attendance demonstrates their seriousness in demanding their rights.

Nneka Ogwumike, players’ union president, stated — this moment represents a historic step, but the meeting results fell short of expectations and there likely won’t be another meeting with this many participants again.
