Toto Wolff reveals close relationship with Lewis Hamilton after Ferrari move

According to the Wall Street Journal, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has revealed how he maintains friendship with Lewis Hamilton after the driver’s decision to join Ferrari.

Wolff acknowledged the situation could have become “borderline hostile” — but both parties worked hard to maintain good relations. Hamilton still frequently visits the Mercedes garage on race weekends and talks with engineers.

“When he decided to go, we actively talked about how to not make it awkward. We all made an effort to be understanding,” explained Wolff.

Despite Ferrari and Mercedes being locked in a tight battle for second and third in the constructors’ standings with just 12 points between them, Wolff emphasizes his friendship with Hamilton remains intact. They often travel together after races with George Russell and Valtteri Bottas.

“On the track, we want to beat him. But after 12 years of relationship, we trust each other,” added Wolff.

Currently, Hamilton sits sixth in the drivers’ championship with 103 points — trailing championship leader Oscar Piastri by 131 points and his teammate Charles Leclerc by 16 points.
