Newcastle United Suffer Heavy Defeat to Celtic in Preseason Match

Celtic secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Newcastle United in a preseason fixture at Celtic Park. Manager Eddie Howe fielded his strongest lineup, but the hosts established a 2-0 lead in the first half through Arne Engels‘ penalty and Johnny Kenny‘s goal.

Newcastle made nine substitutions after the break — including Anthony Elanga‘s debut following his move from Nottingham Forest, alongside Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali. However, the changes proved ineffective as Yang Hyun-Jun extended Celtic’s lead to 3-0.

Kieran Tierney, recently arrived from Arsenal, needed just 19 minutes to provide an assist for Liam Scales who completed Celtic’s 4-0 victory.

Newcastle will continue their preseason tour in Asia with a packed schedule:

  • Against Arsenal in Singapore
  • Facing K-League Select XI in South Korea
  • Meeting Tottenham
  • Two matches at St. James’ Park versus Espanyol and Atlético Madrid
  • Starting Premier League campaign with an away trip to Aston Villa
