Manchester City Plans to Bring Back James Trafford from Burnley

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City has initiated discussions with Burnley to bring goalkeeper James Trafford back to the Etihad Stadium ahead of the 2025-2026 season.

The Citizens sold Trafford to Burnley two years ago for £15 million — including a buyback clause worth £40 million.

Pep Guardiola’s team is now working to negotiate a reduction in the clause value to finalize the goalkeeper’s return. The final transfer decision also depends on the future of the club’s senior goalkeepers.

“Contacts between Man City and Burnley have already started as City want to negotiate fee lower than buy back clause worth £40m,” Romano wrote on his social media.
