The NASCAR Chicago Street Race has announced a pause for 2026 following three successful years of racing through downtown Chicago’s streets.

“Thank you for all that you have done to make the NASCAR Chicago Street Race one of the most iconic events in global sports,” stated the official event announcement.

The organizers plan to use this break to collaborate with Chicago City officials — exploring new potential dates and developing operational optimization plans with aims to return in 2027.

Shane van Gisbergen dominated this race with victories in 2023 and 2025, while Alex Bowman claimed the championship in 2024. The event, held during Independence Day weekend, faced weather challenges but maintained positive reception from spectators.

NASCAR is also considering a return to Chicagoland Speedway, located 50 miles from downtown, while exploring possibilities for a new street race in San Diego.
