Malaysia bounces back with 7-1 victory over Brunei in ASEAN U-23 Championship

Following a surprising defeat to Philippines, Malaysia bounced back with a decisive 7-1 victory over Brunei Darussalam in their Group A match of the ASEAN U-23 Championship at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

Coach Nafuzi Zain made five changes to the starting lineup — the impact was immediate with two quick goals in the first four minutes through Danish Syamer’s header and Nazry Aiman’s own goal.

Haykal Danish and Haqimi Azim Rosli delivered impressive performances with each finding the net. Haykal scored the third goal in the 32nd minute, while Haqimi managed to secure a brace.

  • Danish Hakimi added Malaysia’s fifth goal
  • Haziq Naqiuddin scored a consolation goal for Brunei
  • Fergus Tierney and Haqimi’s second goal completed the 7-1 victory

This win keeps Malaysia’s semifinal hopes alive — they must defeat hosts Indonesia in their final group match to secure qualification.
