Mascherano Concerned About Messi and Alba Playing in MLS All-Star Game

According to ESPN, Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano expressed his concerns regarding Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba’s participation in the MLS All-Star Game scheduled in Austin.

“The players are called up, I would like them to be able to rest but that is not my decision,” said Mascherano. “I know how important the All Star Game is, and as far as I know there is no decision from the club.”

Inter Miami is facing a congested schedule — three matches within seven days. This situation is compounded by goalkeeper Oscar Ustari’s injury during the match against FC Cincinnati.

“The intensity of the games we’ve played, especially in the last month and a half, has been very high. We need to find solutions and prevent injuries because the team keeps deteriorating,” added Mascherano.

The team’s challenges intensify with the Leagues Cup schedule starting late July against Atlas. Meanwhile, Messi and Alba are scheduled to travel to Texas next week for the All-Star Game against Liga MX’s best players.
